01When a website needs a redesign
A redesign is justified when visitors struggle to understand the offer, important actions are difficult to find, mobile layouts have become fragile or the content team cannot make routine changes safely. Visual age alone is not always a reason to rebuild; the existing site should first be assessed for reusable content and working functionality.
02Redesign or full rebuild
A design refresh can preserve the current platform and improve hierarchy, components and responsive behaviour. A rebuild is more suitable when the existing technical structure blocks essential changes or creates ongoing maintenance risk. I explain the tradeoffs before selecting the larger option.
03Design refresh and content hierarchy
The work can reorganise navigation, service explanations, proof and calls to action around the audience journey. Approved visual direction becomes a coherent set of responsive patterns rather than isolated pages. Existing valuable content is retained where it still serves the business.
04Frontend modernization
Legacy or inconsistent interface code can be replaced incrementally or through a new frontend. Reusable components, predictable responsive behaviour and clearer interaction states reduce repeated fixes. The technology is selected according to editing, integration and maintenance requirements.
05CMS and platform migration
A redesign may involve moving to Next.js, Webflow, Shopify or WordPress. Platform choice should reflect the publishing team and required functionality. Content fields, media, forms and integrations are mapped before migration rather than discovered at the end.
06Performance and responsive improvements
Images, fonts, scripts and component behaviour are reviewed alongside the visual redesign. Mobile layouts are tested with real content and interactions. Improvements are based on observable issues; I do not claim unverified score or ranking gains for previous projects.
07Accessibility in the redesigned system
Semantic structure, keyboard access, focus visibility, labels and colour contrast are considered while components are rebuilt. This is more reliable than attempting to patch repeated inaccessible patterns after every page has been completed.
08SEO-aware migration planning
Existing URLs, metadata and valuable content are inventoried before launch. Redirects, canonicals, indexability, structured data and sitemaps are checked on the new implementation. This reduces avoidable migration loss, but no redesign can guarantee search-position improvements.
